Is Counseling for you?

People seek counseling for a variety of reasons. Occasionally, we are faced with unexpected changes to our lives such a divorce, personal loss of a loved one, work transitions or other life circumstances.

More often, we are confronted with difficult situations in life and pursue counseling to deal with long-standing patterns of problematic behaviors and unwanted reactions, or due to challenges dealing with anxiety, depression or substance abuse.

Although choosing to seek counseling may cause uneasiness, it is an important life experience that can bring added meaning and many positive benefits to one’s overall health and well-being. Counseling promotes opportunities for self discovery, personal growth, inner and outer peace, self-esteem improvement, and coping skills to help resolve various life challenges.

It takes courage to admit that one needs help. It takes wisdom to realize that one might not be able to resolve issues without professional help. It takes strength to take the first step to initiate contact to seek help. We praise you on making this important life decision to seek counseling services.

A: Absolutely! Your privacy is our priority.  All services, including your medical records, are considered Protected Health Information and as such are protected by strict federal, state and local laws.

We always obtain client's consent before we communicate with or release any part of the PHI to third parties.  We also keep a detailed log of any PHI released for each client.
A:   No, at this time we do not have a psychiatrist on staff at our practice.

However, we have established partnerships with a vast network of local psychiatrists and other mental health facilities to ensure continuity of mental and behavioral health services to our clients.

If in the course of your treatment with us, your therapist deems it clinically indicated to include psychiatric services or addition of medications to your treatment plan, we will refer you to a local psychiatrist or partner clinic.
A:   Absolutely! Several of our providers are fully dedicated to providing counseling services to children as young as 5 years old as well as teenagers.

Approximately, 40% of our clients are under 18 years old.

A:  Yes, we do!  We have several therapists who specialize in working with couples and helping them to gain insights into relationship dynamics, learn conflict-resolution strategies and improve overall communication skills to rediscover and strengthen their marriage.

A: Our counselors have diverse training and specific areas they specialize in.  Generally, our Clinical Director carefully reviews all new intakes and assigns the most qualified therapist to work with a client based on client's individual needs and circumstances.

If a specific counselor at our practice has been referred to you by a friend of medical professional, please make sure to indicate your preference while requesting our services.

We will be happy to accommodate your request as long as the provider is qualified to treat your condition(s).
A: Generally, sessions are scheduled weekly especially at the early stages of establishing a therapeutic relationship between the counselor and client.

The intent is for the therapist to gather the necessary history about the client so his or her clinical needs can be properly evaluated and correct diagnosis can be made.  This, in turn, will allow the counselor to develop a custom treatment plan to address the needs of the client.

As the client's condition improves over time, the frequency of sessions may be adjusted to biweekly or monthly as deemed clinically appropriate by the provider.
A: The length of participation in therapy by each client depends on client's individual clinical needs and level of engagement in the therapeutic process by the client.

Typically, most common conditions such as adjustment disorders, mild anxiety or depression may resolve within 1-3 months.  However, more complex or severe conditions may require prolonged support lasting for several months.

We also note that many clients who have experienced significant improvement prefer to occasionally check in with their therapist every few months.  Our counselors are here to provide the support you need for as long as you need it.
A: We strongly believe that a good fit with your counselor is very important to continuous engagement in therapy and essential to self improvement.  If, at any time, you feel you are not connecting with your therapist, please do not hesitate to contact our administrative staff.

Your feedback is very important to us and will be shared with our Clinical Director who will reassign another counselor within our practice to you.  We want to make it right and ensure you receive the best quality care you deserve.

A: Yes we do! We are currently in-network with Community Care Behavioral Health Organization (CCBHO) which administers the Medicaid program outside the Lehigh and Northampton counties.  If Medicaid is secondary and you live in the Lehigh or Northampton county, Magellan Healthchoices covers any copays or deductibles.
